Bags of Love and The People’s Print have come together to inspire and challenge you to create your very own floral design, inspired by trend and nature, to show off on your own Bags of Love T-Shirt!
We are going to create a ‘multi-coloured floral’ inspired by Paul Smith Spring / Summer14 collection. Using Adobe Photoshop (if you don’t have Photoshop, you can download a month’s free trial version or you can use other online editing tools such as Pixlr) to create an easy but stunning floral print to show off on your own All Over Printed T-Shirt or any garment you want to make!
Here is an excuse to buy yourself some flowers or even better get someone to buy them for you! You can spend as much or as little as you like, or, you can always head into the garden or park and take photos of the blooms there!
Choose a variety of flowers in different colours. Don’t worry about colours clashing, we are creating a multi-coloured floral design! It is one of this season’s most stylish trends this summer, and it is predicated to be HOT!
To begin you need to photograph your flowers. Lay them out in front of you.
We are going to photograph the flowers on coloured paper so we get an instant coloured background. Choose a variety of colours these will become part of your design. If you don’t have coloured paper to hand, simply use Photoshop to create your own coloured background!
Take a sheet of coloured paper using pair of scissors or a circle cutter to make a hole in the centre.
Make a hole big enough for the stem to go through.
Push your flower through the hole.
Now you are ready to take photos of your flowers individually on different coloured backgrounds. Use a digital camera to take a series of photographs, changing the flowers and the coloured background.
Time for a break and a cuppa and to check out the gorgeous “All Over Print T-Shirt” from Bags of Love – which is the product we will be using this design for. By using the Bags of Love design interface, you will be able to upload your design quickly and very easily.
Creating personalised designs means you will love your garment even more, as it is customised and designed just for you! Yay!
Go to the “All Over Print T-Shirt” option on the Bags of Love website, and click ‘Add to Cart,’ then choose your size option. In the Image & Text tool you will see the ruler around the T-Shirt template with the measurement of the front of the T-Shirt. This needs to be the measurement of your design document. Our size medium T-Shirt front measures 70cm width x 80cm height, this is the size your document needs to be. Let’s get started!
Open your photos in Photoshop, Change the image size of the photographs to 300dpi.
Choose the Polygonal Lasso from the Toolbar and draw around your flower until you reach the starting point. Once you have reached the start point it will create a selection. Edit - Copy to copy your selection.
Open a new document in Photoshop to paste floral images in. File - New Width - 70cm Height - 80cm RGB 300dpi Name your document My Floral Edit - Paste your copied flower, and it will be pasted onto the new document.
Open your flower photos in Photoshop and continue to cut out your flowers with the Lasso Tool, copying and pasting them onto your new document. A new layer will appear for each image. To move your images, select the Move Tool and have the Auto Select ticked in the top left corner of the Option bar. Arrange your flowers in the document. Remember to save as you go!
To scale your florals, click edit – Transform and a box will appear around the image. Drag the corner points holding down the shift key to keep the proportion and change the scale. When happy press the return key.
Continue to fill your document with your flowers, they can spill over the edge of the document. Once you are happy with your arrangement flatten your image by clicking Layers - Flatten Image This is a large document so we are going to reduce the dpi so it is faster to upload. Go to Image - Image size and change the dpi to 200 keeping the Constrain Proportion and Resample Image. Save your design as a Jpeg.
For the “All Over Print T-Shirt” you will use your design for the front and back.
Continue to upload your design to the template. You can use the move tools and auto size tools to align your design. Personalised labels are optional and give your product its own unique label ‘Made by You’. Once you have completed your T-Shirt, click on the “Enter Contest” link underneath the design and you will be taken to page, which will ask for your details. Fill these in and follow the instructions to enter your gorgeous floral into the competition!
