Care instructions
Always test an offcut or sample prior to working the leather with tools, adhesives or heat. To ensure the leather print on your product is as durable as possible, we’ve worked hard refining our printing process and craftsmanship. As leather is a natural material you may notice small differences in surface and texture, as well as wrinkles, which is common to products made from natural leather. All leathers age naturally according to the usage, and this can cause the print to wrinkle or fade slightly over time. It is possible the base colour may show through the leather as it ages with wear. When not in use we recommend storing your product in a protective dust bag or box to keep your product looking its best. Avoid prolonged exposure to extreme heat, sunlight, water, and chemical cleaners to maintain a bright and long-lasting print. Avoid contact with light coloured fabrics or upholstery as the colour may transfer. Whilst a light rain shower is unlikely to harm, we recommend protecting from rain. Should your product get wet, allow to dry naturally away from direct heat. To clean surface wipe only with a damp lint free cotton cloth.
We make your personalised leather rucksack from the following materials: Nappa leather, faux suede, webbing, and mesh. Most of your Colville backpack will be made from bubble textured Nappa, including the front, sides, base, and outside of the straps. Other bits will be accented with smooth Nappa, which will be the zip pulls and decorative tabs, handle, and strap attachments. The handle and adjustable part of the straps will be made from webbing material, while the inside of the straps and back of the bag will be an aerated mesh. This mesh is breathable on your back and provides cushion from anything inside. Our faux suede material will line the inside of your custom leather backpack. Aside from your photo on the front, all of the materials will be black.
We take all the care in the world to create your custom leather backpack, which is why we do it all by hand. We first print the front panel of leather with your photo or design, which then gets cut into the semi-circle shape. The printing technique we use is highly advanced so that the print will be part of the leather without the risk of peeling off. Then each material is cut and sewn together, making a completely bespoke backpack. We check to make sure your personalised leather rucksack is strong and polished before we package up your photo gift and dispatch it.
There aren't many rules when it comes to making your custom leather backpack. There is one area to design, so you can upload a photo or design and be finished in just a few minutes. If you're using a single photo, we recommend using portrait orientation as this will best fill the space. Otherwise, you can create a collage with an array of photos or use a design such as a watercolour illustration. Then choose your hardware finish from gold, gunmetal, and nickel, as well as your stitching colour from grey, cream, or charcoal. Once you've finished, our 3D preview will show you what your personalised leather rucksack will look like.
